Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) materials are harmful products (corrosive, toxic, flammable, or reactive) and must be properly disposed of through HHW programs. Fortunately, County of Simcoe residents can dispose of HHW at the appropriate facilities for FREE.

 

There are two levels of HHW accepted in the County of Simcoe's program: Low Risk HHW and High Risk HHW. Low Risk HHW can be dropped off at the Oro Landfill Site or North Simcoe Transfer Station during regular site hours. Starting on April 1, 2011, higher risk HHW materials will also be accepted at these sites during regular site hours.

Low-risk HHW includes: 

Paints and solvents

Automotive fluids

Aerosol cans

Batteries (including auto batteries)

Fluorescent bulbs and tubes

Oil filters and containers

Propane tanks and cylinders

Household cleaners

Fire extinguishers

Higher-risk HHW includes:

Fertilizers

Pool chemicals

Gasoline

Solvents

Mercury thermostats

Pesticides (fungicides, herbicides, insecticides)

Pharmaceuticals

Household cleaners

Unknown liquids and chemicals

FREE Waste Electronics Recycling (including personal computers, telecommunications equipment, and audio video equipment) is available at County of Simcoe waste management facilities during regular hours.
