- SSEA thanks partners for another successful year…
Severn Sound Environmental Association (SSEA) held its annual Partners’ Reception at the Midland Public Library on Thursday December 2nd. Several heads of Council and
Councillors- past and present, SSEA members, community service groups, volunteers and landowners attended to celebrate our partnerships, projects and award recipients.
The Bob Whittam Environmental Award was presented to Andy Fletcher, whose contributions to the Severn Sound area are numerous. Bob
Whittam, who was unable to attend the Reception, wrote “Andy spoke eloquently to the value of wetlands and wildlife habitat to many stakeholders. He was also an important link between hunters and naturalists”.
Over the past year, the SSEA has worked with a number of organizations, individuals and businesses to monitor environmental quality and implement stewardship projects to protect the Severn Sound watershed. In total, 67 landowners and partners were recognized for their exceptional contributions to the Severn Sound environment.
Three awards were presented to local partners and individuals in recognition for their outstanding contributions to the protection and sustainability of the Severn Sound area.
The first award was presented to the Town of Penetanguishene for their achievement in adopting energy efficient LED street light technology. John Boucher, the Town of Penetanguishene’s Director of Public Works accepted the award.
The Township of Springwater received an award in recognition of their new environmentally sustainable Administration
Centre. Former Deputy Mayor Tony Hope accepted the award.
