The Severn Sound Environmental Association (SSEA) with funding from Intact Financial Corporation, has launched the Severn Sound Watershed Community Flood Risk Review (SSWCFRR) to help local municipalities in the Severn Sound watershed build resilience against flooding.   

The SSWCFRR is a comprehensive flood risk review designed to identify and highlight priority areas and high-value assets within the watershed that are most at risk of flooding, which features rivers, lakes, shorelines, and wetlands. The goal is to provide a high-level assessment to help municipalities and partners prioritize where detailed floodplain mapping should occur in the future. This approach ensures efficient use of resources and targets the areas with the greatest need for in-depth study and mitigation. The intended long-term objective is to reduce flood risk, protect assets, and improve public and municipal preparedness within the Severn Sound watershed. This two-year project was made possible by a $200,000 grant from Intact Financial Corporation as part of their Municipal Climate Resiliency Grant program. It is important to note that this is not a floodplain mapping project but a foundational step to fully assess risk and position the municipalities for further flood management analysis.
