Natural Heritage Evaluations
Land use planning can be enhanced by knowing the value of natural heritage features so that significant features can be protected from development.
Assessments of Habitat help provide the technical basis for municipalities to make informed planning decisions.
SSEA has completed four Natural Heritage Evaluations:
- Penetanguishene Natural Heritage Study Update
- Midland Natural Heritage System Review
- Tay Natural Heritage Evaluation
- Tiny Natural Heritage Evaluation
We worked with the municipalities to develop a list of parameters to be assessed. The projects included mapping habitat conditions and an evaluation of features, to assist municipalities in identifying areas that should be protected through Official Plans.
