Habitat Restoration Tree Planting
ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT PLANTING TREES ON YOUR LAND?

The SSEA and local volunteers plant thousands of trees each year. Since 1992, more than 242,000 tree seedlings have been planted to restore habitat and improve stream water quality.
The SSEA is currently booking sites for 2024 planting. If you are thinking of planting several hundred trees, contact us. Depending on the size, location and the goals of the tree plant, the SSEA may be able to provide assistance with project planning, provide native tree and shrub seedlings, and coordinate volunteers to plant the trees.
Priority is given to tree planting projects that increase forest cover and biological diversity, or improve wildlife habitat and water quality, such as:
- Planting idle land, cropland or hayfield to establish or widen vegetated buffers to streams and wetlands.
- Planting the slopes of intermittent streams that flood in spring or during rain events.
- Planting trees in areas that will connect existing woodlands.
A limited number of seedlings are available through the program, and trees are allocated quickly when there is high demand. Landowners should apply to the SSEA by early fall to accommodate the time required for project planning.
